So, I have wanted to try blogging for some time but where to start? The blogs I have read tend to be people detailing their exciting gap years in South East Asia, or others mapping the lives of their newborn children. What have I got to blog about? Well nothing earth shatteringly amazing but big changes are happening in my life right now and I thought, “why don’t I document them?”
Maybe it’ll help to write things down or maybe other wives in the same position as me will be able to relate, or perhaps nobody will even read it at all.
Before I go on I shall introduce myself. My name is Anna. I’m married to Paul and we have two daughter, Honor 4 and Monica, 2. We live in Sunderland, England near the sea and The Stadium of Light (we are big football fans). Paul and I met nearly 6 years ago and married 13 months later. Nine months after that Honor came along. We found out I was pregnant on the last night of our honeymoon in Thailand. Twenty months after Honor, Monica joined us. The last 6 years have been hectic, sometimes manic and tiredness is now a natural state for Paul and I! Last week Paul was made redundant and that’s the basis for my blog. I hope you enjoy getting to know us!

Just read your blog – great stuff
I am sat at work now reading your blog as a former steelworkers wife.
He has been on the site for 20 years although only the last 4 with SSI.
What is he going to do now.. we cant afford our home on my salary alone .. do i stop working in order to get any financial assisitance.
We both have always worked hard and struggled for what we have now – and now it seems we will have to sell our home. If anybody wants to buy a house in Redcar.!!
We are officially in limbo. How many more people are going through the same thoughts I wonder..maybe the peole in our benefits system have the right idea and we are wrong!! Who knows?

I am so sorry for what you are going through right now. This just should not be happening. Our region has lost so much in the way if industry it’s so sad. Keep fighting and do what needs to be done to keep your home. You’ve worked bloody hard for everything you have. I hope your husband finds work soon x

An honour to meet you Anna. Those of us who were part of the miners strike / support / solidarity in the ’80’s know it was the grit of the miners wives that kept families together, food on the table, and hope alive. It’s a big ask, but I hope you know there are thousands out here, hundreds of thousands, who are in despair at the govt’s limp response to the steel industry crisis, and the Labour movement will support you 100%. I want to see the steel industry kept going, and will do what limited things I can, in terms of lobbying MPs, and making noise. You have the much harder task, of keeping your family going. With you all the way.
